A 20-year-old man has been killed in a fire at a house on Teesside.

Police on patrol raised the alarm after spotting the fire at Formby Close, in the Clavering area of Hartlepool, in the early hours of Monday.

Craig Westhorp was later found dead in the house. Two people who managed to escape were treated in hospital.

The fire is not thought to be suspicious. Mr Westhorp's family said he was a "gentle giant... who lived life to the full".

The adjoining house was evacuated as fire crews tackled the blaze.

A statement released on behalf of his Mr Westhorp's family, said: "Craig was known as a big gentle giant, his smile would light up the room.

"He would do anything for anyone and was a well loved lad by all in such a short life. He lived it to the full.

"The Lord only sent you to us for such a short time, but the pleasure of having you as a son will last a lifetime.

"They stole you away far too soon and the pain is too much to bear, but my memories of you will carry us through till we can be there with you."
