Hartlepool weekend noisy neighbour hotline set up

A hotline to report night-time noisy neighbours in Hartlepool has been set up at the weekends.

Residents can call a dedicated mobile telephone number to report loud music and rowdy parties.

The team will operate from 2200 until 0400 BST on Fridays and Saturdays until the end of August.

Hartlepool Council said it did not want to be a "killjoy" but if people were persistently noisy they would be prosecuted.

Environmental health officer Heather Deane said: "We're not killjoys and we don't want to spoil people's fun but our message is that you can still have a good time without making life a misery for others.

"At this time of the year, people tend to have barbecues in their gardens and noise can carry some distance, particularly at night.

"Where staff are called out and they feel that a complaint is justified, people will be asked to reduce noise and failure to do so could result in them being served with an abatement notice."
