Hartlepool's Rossmere Primary School early learning unit opens

A £1.3m early learning centre has opened at a Teesside primary school.

The unit, at Hartlepool's Rossmere Primary School, will be used by nursery and reception classes, which until now had to use a separate building.

The project, which has been funded by a grant from the government's Primary Capital Fund, has seen a single-storey extension added to the school building.

The new unit boasts ceiling projectors, low-level windows and a purpose-built outdoor play area.

Debbie Hopper, acting head teacher, said: "Enabling the nursery and reception children to learn and play together will ease the children's all-important transition from nursery to reception and help them develop as confident, independent learners."

Cath Hill, Hartlepool Council's cabinet member for children's services, added: "This marvellous learning space will play a vital part in guiding our young people through some of their first experiences of school life."
