Thieves take £1,.600 from Thornaby day centre

About £1,600 has been stolen from a day centre for the elderly and disabled in Thornaby.

Thieves broke into The Halcyon Centre between 28 and 29 November and stole the money.

About £230 of the stolen money was raised at an event for the BBC Children in Need appeal.

No-one was in the centre when the break-in took place. Cleveland police are appealing for people with information to contact them.

Rebecca Williams, the Halcyon Centre manager, said: "The staff and centre users were upset to discover a thief had been in the building and we are doing all we can to help the police in their inquiries.

"The money stolen had been under lock and key and some of it - about £230 - had been collected for Children in Need."
