Pedestrian killed on A1(M) named as Kurt Etheridge

A male pedestrian killed when he was hit by a lorry on the A1(M) on Sunday has been named by police as Kurt Etheridge, 21 from Hereford.

He was a soldier undergoing training at Catterick Garrison army base in North Yorkshire.

The incident happened at about 03:20 BST north of junction 58 near Darlington.

The Volvo articulated lorry is owned by a transport company from Darlington. The coroner has been informed.

The A1(M) was closed for more than five hours following the death.
