Two men were seriously injured when their car left the road and overturned in County Durham.

The pair were in a Vauxhall Astra which was involved in a collision with a VW Passat in Hunwick, near Barnard Castle, on Sunday.

The Astra left the road, hit a wall and ended up on its roof in a garden.

Its driver, a 27-year-old local man, was airlifted to hospital. The passenger, 22 and also local, was taken by ambulance.

Both suffered serious injuries, but they were not believed to be life-threatening.

Durham Police has appealed for witnesses to the incident on St Paul's Way at about 15:00 BST.
