Seven in hospital after County Durham fire

Five children and two adults were treated for smoke inhalation in hospital after a fire in County Durham.

The blaze broke out in the bedroom of a house on Chestnut Grove in Roddymoor, near Crook, just after 9:30 BST.

It took firefighters and two fire engines about an hour and a half to put the fire out.

Two children and one adult were taken to Darlington Hospital, one adult and three children were taken to the University Hospital of North Durham.

The cause of the blaze in the semi-detached property is being investigated by police and fire officers.

A spokesman for County Durham and Darlington Fire Service said the family had been alerted by a smoke alarm.
