County Durham fire fighters attacked by fireworks

Fire crews were attacked with fireworks after being called out to extinguish an illegal bonfire in County Durham.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service were called to the West End Villas area of Crook on Wednesday night to put out an illegal bonfire.

When crews arrived, fireworks were launched at the responding fire engine and crew by a group of youths.

A spokesman for the fire service said illegal bonfires are "drawing resources away from where they are needed".

No one was hurt in the incident.
