A Teesside man has been sentenced to life for the manslaughter of his estranged partner.

Christine Henderson, 50, was found at a friend's house in Cherwell Terrace, Brambles Farm, Middlesbrough, in July.

Graham Gibson, 47, of Kent Avenue, Hartlepool, denied murder but admitted killing her in "60 seconds of madness". He was convicted of manslaughter.

The judge at Teesside Crown Court handed him a life sentence with a minimum term of seven-and-a-half-years.

During the trial, in October, the jury heard Gibson lost control following an argument with the mother-of-three who had previously ended their relationship.

He claimed she had been taunting him about a previous partner before he carried out the attack, which was described as "brutal, frenzied and sustained".
