The former chairman of Cleveland Police Authority has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Dave McLuckie, a Redcar and Cleveland councillor, was arrested by officers from Operation Sacristy last month.

He will appear before magistrates in Newcastle on 30 November, it has been confirmed.

The charge is the first relating to the operation which is investigating allegations of corruption at the police authority.

Mr McLuckie was arrested for the second time by the Sacristy team on 16 October.

Operation Sacristy concerns a number of individuals with past or present associations with the police authority.

Warwickshire Police, whose officers are leading the inquiry, said a total of eight people have been arrested so far.
