Police officer hurt in Middlesbrough emergency crash

A police officer suffered leg injuries when a police van responding to an emergency call was in a collision with a car in Middlesbrough.

The crash happened shortly at 16:15 GMT on Saturday at the junction of Cargo Fleet Lane and Longlands Road.

The injured man was taken to hospital along with the 58-year-old female car driver.

Cleveland Police said the crash had been referred to the force's professional standards unit.
