Saltersgill spade attack: Suspect charged with attempted murder

A man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a "horrific" spade attack which led to a man losing part of his nose.

The 50-year-old man was left with severe facial injuries after being attacked in Portrush Close in Saltersgill, Middlesbrough on 16 June.

The man's nose was "partially amputated", Cleveland Police said.

A 36-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, Section 18 wounding and possession of an offensive weapon.

He will appear before Teesside Crown Court on 5 July.

A 36-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and criminal damage remains on bail.
