Middlesbrough package probe prompts evacuation

A bomb disposal unit from Catterick Garrison was called after what was thought to be a suspicious package was found in Middlesbrough town centre.

A package was discovered near to the O2 shop on Linthorpe Road, near the Cleveland Centre, at about 13:50 BST.

A 100m cordon was put in place by Cleveland Police as a precaution and nearby shops were evacuated.

Experts investigated the package and police later confirmed it was not suspicious.
