National Biologics Centre to be based in Darlington

A £38m national pharmaceutical centre will be based in Darlington.

The National Biologics Manufacturing Centre, managed by the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), will develop antibodies and vaccines using live organisms.

Science Minister David Willetts said the centre would help keep Britain "ahead in the global race".

Bill Dixon, leader of Darlington Council, said he hoped the facility would attract further investment.

Work on the centre is expected to start in 2014, the CPI said.
