Stockton houses demolished for 'pleasant environment'

Twenty-four more properties are to be pulled down as part of a programme to demolish almost 190 derelict or outdated homes in Stockton.

The Swainby Road area is being redeveloped and new homes built.

Three houses and the Brown Jug pub on Norton Road were cleared in August and the six remaining properties are due for demolition later in the year.

Stockton Council cabinet member for housing Steve Nelson said it wanted to "create a new, pleasant environment".

The borough council will appoint a developer to build a range of new housing.
