Jed Johnson named as teenager killed in A688 crash

A teenager who was killed when his car hit a tree in County Durham has been named by police.

Jed Johnson, 17, of Toft Hill, was driving a Vauxhall Corsa which left the road on a bend of the A688 Staindrop Road in West Auckland.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, near Oakley service station, shortly after 18:45 GMT on Friday.

His front-seat passenger, a 15-year-old girl from Barnard Castle, was not seriously injured.

Durham Police revealed Mr Johnson would have turned 18 next month.
