The parents of a County Durham driver who died in a car crash have paid tribute to their 23-year-old son.

Kieran Arkless, from Willington, died on Sunday when his car was in collision with a taxi on the outskirts of Bishop Auckland.

His parents, Shaun and Gillian Arkless, said he had just moved into his first home after landing a "dream job" at a pharmaceutical company.

They said the keen Sunderland fan would be remembered with a smile.

In a statement released through Durham Police, Mr and Mrs Arkless said the 23-year-old was "a deeply loved son, grandson, brother and a friend to many".

"We have been inundated with so many visitors, texts, phone calls and cards from so many people, young and old alike.

"All say how much he was loved and how greatly he will be missed.

"Everyone has a story to tell about Kieran and although everyone has shed a tear he is remembered with a smile and for his kindness, generosity and his sense of fun."
