A former schoolteacher who sexually abused four children has been jailed for 15 and a half years.

Alan Medd, 77, of Stockton, was described as "despicable, depraved and abhorrent" at Teesside Crown Court.

The abuse took place during the 1980s and 1990s. Two of his victims were eight when it started.

Medd had admitted 21 charges of indecent assault. Det Insp Simon Walker, of Cleveland Police, said they were "pleased with the outcome".

"We would like to reassure members of the public that it is never too late to report an incident of this nature and every report will be investigated thoroughly, professionally and sensitively," he added.

"There are specialist officers and partner agencies available that can help support anyone affected by crimes of this nature."
