Teenager killed in A66 crash near Darlington

A teenager has been killed after his car left the road near Darlington and crashed into a barrier in the early hours, police have confirmed.

The 18-year-old was driving a silver Hyundai Getz westbound on the A66 at Long Newton when the smash happened just after midnight.

He died of his injuries later at James Cook University Hospital, police said.

The crash was reported by a member of the public and officers are appealing for other witnesses to come forward.
