St John's Chapel biker crash: Man dies in head-on collision

A motorcyclist died after colliding head-on with another biker and crashing into a wall.

The 30-year-old, who has not yet been named, died at the scene of the crash on the A689 at St John's Chapel near Bishop Auckland, County Durham, on Sunday.

Police said his Yamaha bike collided with a Honda.

A spokesman said the impact sent him crashing into a lamp-post and then a dry stone wall.

The other rider, a 33-year-old man from Hebburn, South Tyneside, is being treated at the University Hospital North Durham for non-life threatening injuries.

Police have appealed for witnesses.
