Pedestrian dies after being hit by car in Ferryhill

Police are trying to discover the identity of a man who died after he was struck by a car near a County Durham village.

The man, who was in his 40s or 50s, was hit by a car travelling north on Pine Road on the outskirts of Ferryhill at about 18:40 GMT on Sunday.

Police said the dead man had short greying hair and was wearing a jacket and shorts with blue Adidas trainers.

A Durham Police spokesman said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
