Car crashed into house and set on fire in Darlington

A car has been driven into a house and set on fire in a feud between members of the traveller community, police have said.

It happened on Yarm Road, Darlington, on Wednesday at about 20:20 GMT and is being treated as arson.

Ch Insp Sue Robinson said detectives believe the house was targeted because it was unoccupied.

"We can confirm the incident is connected to an ongoing feud in the traveller community," she said.

"Although nobody was injured in this particular incident, and damage to the house was limited, there is always the potential that people not connected with the feud can be injured.

"We therefore cannot allow these types of incidents to continue."
