Police tackle underage drinking on Tyneside

People in Newcastle are being "responsible" in helping to combat underage drinking, police have said.

Eight off-licences, identified as places where adults try to buy alcohol for teenagers, were targeted by officers on 24 July.

None of the retailers sold alcohol to youths, and no adults attempted to buy it for children during the operation.

It was part of a force-wide campaign to highlight ongoing work to reduce anti-social behaviour.
