Pigeon deaths fire on Tyneside was deliberate

A fire which killed dozens of racing pigeons at a cree on Tyneside is now being treated as arson, police said.

Emergency services were called to the scene at allotments behind Waterville Road in North Shields late on Tuesday.

About 100 pigeons died in the fire and police said the owner, who had kept pigeons as a hobby for 25 years, was devastated.

It is thought some other birds may have been taken and police are appealing for any information.
