Teesside family in fatal A1 road accident

A Teesside mother and her six-year-old daughter have been killed in a collision on the A1 in Newcastle.

Joanne Richardson, 40, and her daughter Mya, six, of Billingham, were killed in the collision on Sunday night.

Her 37-year-old partner, who was driving the family's black Jaguar, and their other daughter, who is 10-weeks-old, received minor injuries.

Police said the family's southbound car collided with a red Jaguar travelling the wrong way on the road.

A 61-year-old man from Blyth has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He received minor injuries.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
