Motorcyclist hurt in Northumberland river crash

A motorcyclist is seriously ill in hospital after he ended up in a Northumberland river following a crash.

The accident happened on the C200 near to Ridley Stokoe Farm, Tarset, at about 1250 BST on Sunday.

The 60-year-old man from Gateshead collided with a bridge support before he and his black Yamaha bike were thrown into a nearby river.

He was flown to hospital in Cumbria where he is being treated for serious internal injuries.
