Arrests linked to shooting of man in North Tyneside

Police have arrested two men in connection with a fracas which took place immediately before a man was shot in North Tyneside.

Paul Borg, 25, received gunshot wounds to his leg in the Willington Quay area on Thursday night.

Detectives said the shooting was linked to an earlier organised fight among two groups of men.

A 25-year0old man has been charged with a public order offence. A 19-year-old is helping police with their inquiries.

Northumbria Police said a car matching the description of a Renault Clio seen leaving the scene of the shooting had been seized.

Ch Insp Kevin Wellden said: "We have not yet recovered the gun and it is a priority for us to find it.

"Officers are carrying out searches for the weapon and we are appealing for anyone who may have any information about it to ring police straightaway.

"Extra officers are on patrol in the area to reassure people and answer their questions and concerns."
