Police investigating the shooting of a man in Tyneside have arrested three men on Merseyside.

Paul Borg, 25, received wounds to his leg in Willington Quay on Thursday after what police said was an organised fight among two groups of men.

Northumbria Police said three men, aged 29, 30 and 22, from the Wallsend area, were arrested on Merseyside on Tuesday. They will be interviewed later.

Another man was arrested in North Tyneside on Tuesday

Police are still trying to trace a silver Renault Clio with blacked-out windows and the registration plate Y969 KCN, which was seen leaving the area just after the shooting.

Four men had already been arrested in connection with the shooting. Two of them have been released with no further action.

A 25-year-old man has been charged with a public order offence.
