Woman dies after being hit by car in Northumberland

An elderly pedestrian has died after being hit by a car on a Northumberland road.

The accident happened on the A193 between Blyth and Seaton Sluice near to the junction with Collywell Bay Road at 1420 BST on Tuesday.

The 87-year-old woman, who has not been named, was hit by a Peugeot 406. She was taken to hospital but later died.

Police said the driver of the car was uninjured in the accident and an investigation was under way.
