Woman denies Pope death threats

A North Tyneside woman has denied making threats to kill Pope Benedict XVI during his state visit to the UK.

Pauline Lunney is alleged to have said that she intended to travel to London on 18 September and shoot him.

The 56-year-old, of Ridley Avenue, Wallsend, appeared before magistrates and was released on conditional bail.

She is due to return to North Tyneside Magistrates' Court on 17 November, when she will be committed to Newcastle Crown Court for trial.
