Reward offered for stolen pigeons at Tyneside loft

Pigeons valued at thousands of pounds have been stolen from lofts at allotments on Tyneside, police said.

About 50 pigeons were taken from two allotments at Dukes Cottages in Newburn on Monday.

Earlier this month, 64 pigeons were stolen from another aviary on Linnel Drive, Lemington. Owner Nicky Brown has offered a reward for their return.

Police have been speaking to local pigeon clubs and specialist in an attempt to trace the birds.

Insp Mick Farrell said: "These thefts are not only distressing for the owners but have also caused a great financial loss and we're doing all we can to find the person or people responsible."
