Arrest after phone cable stolen in North Tyneside

A man has been arrested after telephone cable was stolen from North Tyneside causing £10,000 of damage.
Police were called to open land near near to the old gas storage depot in Nelson Terrace, Percy Main, on Thursday.
Police said a local business's phone system had been knocked out due to the theft of metal cable.
After searching the area they discovered a man in a manhole and a quantity of telephone cable.
A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft and has been bailed pending further inquiries.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
