Police link three sexual offences in Gosforth

Police are linking three sexual offences in Newcastle after women reported being touched inappropriately while walking through a city suburb.

The victims, aged 17 and 51, were both indecently assaulted by a man in Gosforth on Friday.

They told police the man followed them for a short time before groping them.

On the same day, also in Gosforth, a man approached a 79-year-old woman and made comments of a sexual nature towards her.

Police said the women were left distressed by what happened.

Bomber jacket

The offender is described as being in his early 20s, between 5ft 8ins and 6ft tall, of medium build, with short brown hair and a pale complexion.

He was wearing a dark jacket and trousers and had a scarf over the lower half of his face.

He was also said to be wearing a red padded bomber jacket with a white panel on the front.

Det Sgt Mick Lindsay, of Gosforth CID, said they believed the incidents were linked.

"It's important we trace him as soon as possible so we can take action.

"I'd urge people in the Gosforth area to be vigilant and if they do see any suspicious activity, or a man who fits this description, they should contact police straight away."
