Northallerton man died after fall in Newcastle

A Northallerton man who went missing after a night out in Newcastle died after suffering serious injuries in a fall, police said.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on Duncan Gibbon, 21, on Friday.

The Edinburgh University student's body was found near the High Level Bridge on the Quayside on Wednesday, after an extensive search in wintry conditions.

He was last seen with friends at the Fever Bar on the Quayside on Saturday night.

Det Insp Gary Stephenson, of Newcastle CID, said: "Our thoughts are very much with Duncan's family at this very difficult time for them. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends and we will continue to offer them our support."
