Work is due to begin on a new play area for Tyneside.

The park at Station Road, Wallsend will include a zip wire and basket swing, a range of spinning equipment, swings for all ages and a multi-climbing unit.

The site will also have its own toddler area, featuring sand, a see-saw, spring toys, seating and picnic tables.

Children, young people and childminders from the local community were involved in the design of the play area

They worked in partnership with North Tyneside Council's Play and Urban Games team.

The development has been financed by the Big Lottery Fund and forms part of North Tyneside Council's play development programme.

The programme has delivered 14 new and 26 refurbished play sites, 12 new multi-use games areas and four new skateparks, so far.

North Tyneside Council said work would start in January.
