Man charged over Gateshead pub stab attack

A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a man who was found with stab wounds in Gateshead.

The 26-year-old was attacked near the Travellers Rest pub in Southend Terrace on Saturday.

Northumbria Police said he was in a critical condition at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead.

A force spokesman said a 24-year-old local man was arrested late on Sunday and charged with attempted murder. He is due in court later.
