Cullercoats Metro station stabbing: Man injured

A man has been stabbed in the back at a Tyneside Metro station.

The 22-year-old was standing on a platform at Cullercoats station, in North Tyneside, when he was attacked shortly after 2230 BST on Thursday.

Police said it was not thought to be a random attack and believed the injured man knew the attacker. The victim's condition is described as stable.

There were a number of people at the station and police have appealed for witnesses.

Det Ch Insp Max Black, of Northumbria Police, said: "I would like to reassure the public that this is not a random attack and the victim and suspect are believed to know each other."

Detectives are studying CCTV images.
