Newcastle girl appeals to driver after hit-and-run

An 11-year-old girl from Newcastle is making an appeal for the hit-and-run driver who knocked her down to hand themselves in.

Lauren Pollin received serious injuries in the crash on Hexham Road, Throckley, on Monday.

She described the crash as "shocking" and said she doesn't remember being hit - but just lying on the roadside.

Lauren said: "How can you do that to an 11-year-old? Would you like me to try and do it to you? I don't think so."

She was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary after the incident, where she remains in a stable condition.

Her mum Kelly Pollin said: "I think it's disgusting that somebody can hit a child and then just drive off and leave them at the side of the road."

Northumbria police are still appealing for witnesses to trace the vehicle.
