Pregnant woman attacked for phone in Newcastle

A pregnant woman has been attacked in Newcastle after refusing to give up her mobile phone.

At 18:20 GMT on Friday the woman was walking in Houghton Avenue, Kenton, when a man demanded her phone.

When the woman refused, the man pushed her to the ground and kicked her before taking her phone and fleeing the scene.

The woman and her unborn child were later declared fit and well at Newcastle RVI hospital. Police are appealing for witnesses.

The man is described as white, about 5ft 10in (1.78m) tall and of medium build, clean shaven and about 19 or 20 years old.

He was wearing a light grey hooded top, jogging bottoms and spoke with a strong Newcastle accent.
