Firearms investigation in Northumberland sparks arrests

Police have arrested seven people and seized three firearms in a planned operation in Northumberland.

Armed officers stopped a car in the North Seaton area of Ashington at about 13:30 GMT on Saturday and found a rifle and a handgun in the boot.

A man, 36, and a woman, 32, were arrested at the scene.

Two men, 51 and 60, two women, 56 and 32, and a youth were arrested in North Seaton and Newbiggin after an air weapon was found in a property.

Those arrested are in police custody and are being questioned on suspicion of firearms offences.
