Firearms probe in Northumberland: Five charged

Five people - including a 14-year-old boy - have been charged with firearms offences after a handgun and rifle were seized from a car in Northumberland.

Armed officers stopped the vehicle in North Seaton, Ashington, on Saturday and found the weapons in the boot.

Five people, ranging in age between 14 and 60, have been charged with illegally possessing firearms.

They have been bailed and will appear before South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court on 14 April.

Those charged are three men aged 36, 56 and 60, a 32-year-old woman and the 14-year-old boy.

A 51-year-old man, also arrested on suspicion of firearms offences, has been bailed pending further inquiries and a 32-year-old woman was released with no further action, Northumbria Police confirmed.
