Arrest after woman's sudden death in South Shields

A man has been arrested after a woman died on South Tyneside.

The 23-year-old was pronounced dead in hospital after an ambulance was called to an address on Richardson Avenue, South Shields in the early hours.

Her name has not yet been released. Police said the investigation was in its early stages, but the incident was being treated as a sudden death.

Officers are questioning a 27-year-old man on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs.
