More arrests after Walker shooting

Two more people have been arrested over the shooting of a man in Newcastle.

The 24-year-old man was shot near Monkchester Road, Walker on 16 April and taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary with a bullet wound in his arm.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and a 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Two men and a woman have also been arrested as part of the investigation.

A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Tuesday.

'BMX bike appeal'

A man, 24, arrested last week on suspicion of wounding and a woman, 30, arrested last week on suspicion of assisting an offender have been bailed.

Ch Insp Steve Barron said: "Our investigations have indicated this was not a random incident.

"We do not believe there is any danger to the wider public.

"These sorts of incidents are unusual in our region and we take such crimes extremely seriously."

Police have appealed for information from anyone who saw a man on a black BMX bike in the area on the evening of 16 April.

Additional patrols are being carried out in the area.
