Durham Police officer faces court on assault charge

A Durham Constabulary officer is to appear in court to face a charge of assault.

Sgt Andrew Gore, 47, who is based in Darlington, is facing the charge after an Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) investigation.

The charge relates to an allegation that excessive force was used on a 19-year-old detainee in Darlington Custody Suite on 12 October 2011.

He is due to appear before Sunderland Magistrates' Court on 14 May.

The IPCC independently investigated the allegation following a referral by Durham Constabulary.
