Vehicle stranded on River Wansbeck ford

A family had to be rescued when their vehicle became stranded on a ford in Northumberland.

Emergency services were called to Bennetts Walk in Morpeth after the 4X4 became swamped while crossing the swollen River Wansbeck.

Two adults, two children and two dogs were taken to land by fire service officers. No-one was hurt.

Police said the vehicle was left secured in the water, and would be recovered when it was safe to do so.

They are advising drivers to use caution when crossing any water while heavy rain persists.
