Bomb squad called to Ryton property

A bomb disposal squad was called after police discovered a substance as they searched a property in Tyneside.

Northumbria Police said they executed a warrant at a home in Parkfield, Ryton, Gateshead, shortly after 10:30 BST.

A man was arrested and during a search of the property officers discovered a substance and as a precaution called in the bomb disposal unit.

Police said there was no evacuation and no concern for local residents.

No further details about the substance or the arrest were available.
