Missing 88-year-old Alexander Cromar found dead

A body found at the weekend is that of a missing 88-year-old South Tyneside man, police confirmed.

Alexander Cromar was last seen alive on the afternoon of 3 June on a path near Concorde Way, Jarrow and was reported missing on 6 June.

Northumbria Police said Mr Cromar was hard of hearing and suffered from mild dementia.

Officers said his body was found on Sunday in woodland near South Shields Golf Club.

An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned.
