Driver dies following A697 collision

A motorist has died in hospital following a collision between his car and an HGV in Northumberland.

Police have named the man as Alistair Simpson, 65, from the Wooler area. He suffered serious injuries on the A697 at Longhorsley on Tuesday.

He was taken by air ambulance to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, but later died.

Northumbria Police has appealed for witnesses to the incident near Linden Hall at 16:50 BST.
