Man, 72, dies in Newcastle lorry crash

An elderly pedestrian has died after he was knocked down by a lorry on a road in Newcastle.

Richard Jones suffered head injuries during the incident at The Fossway in Walker, at the junction of Valencia Avenue, at about 07:30 BST.

The 72-year-old, of Wall Terrace in Walker, was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, but later died.

The driver of the lorry has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
