Newcastle's Co-op building clock face missing

The clock face of the Co-operative building in Newgate Street, Newcastle, has gone missing.

There was a report that two men were dismantling the clock on the side of the building at 18:00 BST on Wednesday.

However, baffled police said they could not confirm if the clock has been actually stolen.

Northumbria Police said an officer was carrying out inquiries and working with the building's owner.

The Co-operative building has dominated Newgate Street since it opened for business in 1932.
